House Renovation in Vigo, Spain P-29
Completed 2019
Single-family house in a historic beachfront
Reviewing closed urban block type
This project for a house renovation, in Vigo, seeks to reuse to the possible extent the materials of the original building, keeping the original volume as prescribed in the regulations.
The internal space has been completely transformed to become a flexible and reversible space able to be easily changed to different "modes" according to the different use the dwellers will make of it at different times of the week and at different seasons of the year as follows: week mode - weekend mode - summer mode - winter mode
The space configuration in those different modes creates some basic space hierarchies and service distributions allowing the dwellers to decide how to colonize and use the space. there is no initial definition of where is the living room or the bedrooms; this is for the "colonizers" to decide.
In this sense, only bathrooms and laundry have a fixed location; the rest of the elements in the house including the kitchen, wardrobes, and bedrooms are mounted on wheels; so can be easily relocated throughout the space.
A set of drainage-sealed connections and water supply points are left at strategic locations, to allow the kitchen to be easily plugged into different areas of the space.

The project explores compartmented flexibility as a means to move one step further, the way we interact with space and live in the domestic realm.
